How to Manage Your Worry

Worry is one of the most common symptoms of anxiety.

Do you find yourself worrying constantly about every little thing?

You’re not alone.

Whether you actually have anxiety or not, we all go through periods in our lives where it can feel like worry is totally taking over.

It is normal when you’re going through a life change (like starting a new job) or anytime some significant stressor presents itself (like a family member being sick) to have an increased amount of worry. If your worry is leading to poor sleep, decreased appetite, difficulty concentrating or difficulty getting things done, that is a sign that you may need to take some action to better manage your worry.

Some of the most common worries I hear from friends, family, and clients are:

1. Worrying about what other people think of them

2. Whether they’re doing enough in the different roles they have in their lives like as an employee, as a spouse, or a parent

3. Things that may or may not happen in the future

4. Things they said or did in the past.

Usually we start out having one simple worry, but often that one worry leads us to have unhelpful thoughts, additional worries, or to judge ourselves for having the worry in the first place.
